Historic Architecture
1. Great hukou Public School Relic
Great Hukou Public Schoold was founded in 1907. In the early days of Japanese Government, due to the military and administrative demands, Taiwan used the Taiwanese-Japanese translation, promulgated the educational system of Chinese Study Institute, educated the Taiwanese to study Japanese and founded public school everywhere. Great Hukou Public School emerged in such background and became the cradle where the talent of Dahukou and Hung Mau Kong were enlightened. Afterwards, the school was abolished because of the local development and changes of population structure and now has just remained the old school gate and a cenotaph. In 2001, it was announced to be the county’s historic architecture and therefore the historic school relic can be preserved.

2. Two steles of Bingjin and Shijin in Touchung, Jhudong
“Shengyu Bingjin Stele” and “Fengxian Shijin Stele” were both erected in 1852. The epigraph is still clearly visible, which records that in 1777, 53 South Fuchien and Hakka owners together applied for reclaiming the land near Yuanshanzai to the Jhuqian and entered into the agreement concerning the matters of prohibiting the arbitrariness and private reclamation. The original ancient stele was damaged and reestablished in Jhuchung Preliminary School after it was found. It is the only well-preserved ancient stele in Touchungpu District and can be called as the valuable historic witness.

3. Beipu Zhongshu Hall
In 1875, two Xiucai, Zeng Xuexi and Peng Yuqian appeared in Beipu. The Zhongshu Hall located in the Park Road and Temple Frontgate is the residence of Zeng Xuexi. Zhongshu Hall was established in 1925, which is architecture with a hall and two horizontal rooms. The original front door was in the direction of south-north. It is said that the door was confronted with the coattail ridge of Chiang’s ancestral temple, offending the “Nijiansha”, and thus changed to the direction of southwest according to the suggestion of geomancer, with the “golden-divided line” of door and house facing the top of Xiuluan Mountain and intersected with central axes of Citian Palace and Tianshui Hall in “Le Mountain”. Such architecture is designed with marvelous technique and originality, the integrated style is relatively graceful and the architectural pattern, workmanship, appearance and its space arrangement perfectly express the cultural characteristics of Beipu community’s civil residence and fully represent the architectural advantages that meet the life requirements of Hakka. It is the important architecture model in the Beipu Street outline.

4. Beipu Deng Nanguang’s Residence
Mr. Deng Nanguang is a photographer early in Taiwan, whose works leave the precious image records for the history of Taiwan and Beipu. Deng Nanguang’s Residence is the first modern house made of armoured concrete in Beipu District, close to which is the added clinic of “Shiyuan Hospital” built after the recovery which also represents the architecture thoughts and arts and crafts at that time with the historic meaning and value.

5. Emei Fuxing Tea-Making Factory (including Lu Guo Shi Di)
Fuxing Tea-making Factory was roughly established in the middle age of Japanese Government Period, which is a tea factory with the largest scale in Fuxing village. It is originally a wood-made Japanese-style architecture and later rebuilt as a tea factory with two floors. It tea-making equipment and the special streamline distribution is worthy of preservation. Beside the tea-making factory is the owner’s residence, called “Luguo Hall”, with doors for entrance and exit on the both sides, four words of “Lu Guo Shi Di” written on the door plaque and a tree leaning on the door, showing the elegance. Luguo Hall is a building with two halls, two wing-rooms and two horizontal rooms, small for space dimension but not the vigour.

6. Planting Pine Wood Jhudong Liaison Office
Forestry is one of the four-largest industries driving the prosperity of Jhudong District and became the “Distribution Center of Wood” in the evening of Japanese Government Period. Such Building was the “Planting Pine Wood Jhudong Liaison Office” in the Japanese Government Period and turned into the Labor Affairs Office of Jhudong District Administration, Forestry Bureau after the recovery. The building is made of wood with the rain-board wall body and now has become the exhibition hall of Jhudong forestry to witness the development of Jhudong Forestry.

7. Old Hukou Catholic Chapel
The Catholic Church located beside the Hukou old street was arranged for construction by the Italian Jesuitic Abba Man Sijian at the original site in 1959 after the railways station was moved. It was ever the center of Catholicism in the Hukou District, facing at a distance the Historic Site Sanyuan Palace at the other end of the old street and together witnessing the development history of the old street zone.
The facial washed terrazzo, colorful tiled glass and top-notch cross in the Chapel are the major elements of its building, with the features of that time. In 1933, it was abandoned because all the church activities stopped. Subsequently, with the efforts of local people and cooperation with the recycle plan of unused space, it has become the best example for that the Old Hukou Cultural Relics Museum is closely combined with the local community.

8. Neiwan Police Station
Neiwan Police Station is located up the Neiwan Railway Station, which is building with the highest topography in Neiwan Village and monitors this village. It was originally the Nanhe Tribe Promotion Council and afterwards became the Neiwan Police Station. The building is the traditionally wood-made architecture of Japanese style with the hip roof and rain-board body, which is one of the few existing Japanese-styled police station and is preserved well for use. Neiwan Police Station has a beautiful environment. The centurial sweet-scented osmanthus in front of the door sees the development of Neiwan as well as the changes of Neiwan railway, possessing the historic meaning and value.

9. Guansi Taiwan Black Tea Company
Guangsi is one of the major tea districts and founded the three factories of “Military Director Ma’s Tea Portfolio”, “Guansi Tea Portfolio” and “Chike Mountain Tea Portfolio”, among others, early or late the Japanese Government Period, which made the Guansi Tea be in fashion for a period. Afterwards, because the price was depressed by the middle market, Luo Biyu, the patriarch of Luo Family, thereby established the “Taiwan Black Tea Company” combined with local tea factory in 1937, which is the first factory that directly operates the exported tea remaking and exports the products to over ten countries.
Going through the changes of times, Guansi Black Tea has come down, but the Taiwan Black Tea Company is still holding on. Currently, it primarily produces green tea and the tea factory is preserved well. The brothers Luo Qingjiang and Luo Qingshi not only arrange the existing historical materials, but also actively recreate the new life of tea factory. If going to Guansi, never miss the typical industrial building.
